School Mentors - Hand in Hand for strong schools 2.0

Ministry for Schools and Vocational Training & Koordinierungsstelle Weiterbildung und Beschäftigung e.V. (BSB & KWB)
Project term:  1 October 2017 – 30 September 2020

School Mentors - Hand in Hand for strong schools 2.0

The project’s teams help schools to develop mentoring systems, also providing seminars, workshops and online modules to train students, parents and volunteers as mentors. Participants who have completed the training programme provide one-to-one support to individual students, primarily from families with a migration background, with the aim of improving their educational opportunities. Child mentors should act as role models for their peers, while parent mentors assist other parents when dealing with important school-related issues. In addition to this, each school should develop a network of external volunteers. The ‘School mentors’ project is an element of 23+ STRONG SCHOOLS, the school development programme set up by Hamburg’s Ministry for Schools and Vocational Training (BSB) to support schools in socially challenging areas.
