Comprehensive recruitment of young people for training in the crafts sector

‘Comprehensive recruitment of young people for training in the crafts sector’ is making a contribution towards recruiting more school leavers for dual company-based training programmes. Its objective is to ensure that Hamburg’s crafts sector has enough skilled workers in the long term. The project provides students, parents, teachers and multipliers with information on crafts professions. It offers adolescents the opportunity to gain practical experience; brings together schools and companies offering training and provides further training courses for teachers and multipliers. In addition to this, it can help teenagers find training places in the crafts sector. Both trainees and their companies can be provided with assistance for the duration of the training programme with the aim of preventing trainees from dropping out. Dedicated measures to increase the number of female journeymen becoming master craftsmen are also in place to ensure that more women in the trades have sufficient qualifications to achieve professional advancement. The project is an integral element of the 2020 Masterplan for Hamburg’s crafts sector and supports Hamburg’s strategy to secure skilled workforce.
