The care sector as an employment opportunity for refugees

maxQ. Hamburg
Project term: 1 August 2017 - 31 December 2018

The care sector as an employment opportunity for refugees

The project offers improved access to employment or training in the care sector to refugees who have good prospects of permanent residence in Germany; have completed an integration course and have B1-level German skills. Within the scope of a preparatory phase participants complete a variety of modules which provide them with learning and work techniques; guidelines on applying for jobs; intercultural competences and basic knowledge of the care profession and the law. Following this, they complete a ten-week dual course comprising practical work experience at a care institution while participating in parallel theoretical teaching modules covering care fundamentals; personal reflection and language skills, all designed to further improve their qualifications. The project contributes to achieving the statutorily required qualified employee quota; accompanies Hamburg’s strategy to meet the demand for qualified personnel and supports the integration of refugees into the employment market within the scope of the “W.I.R - work and integration for refugees” programme.
